
Julie London (nee Peck) was an American actor and singer who toured for more than 40 years. London was a torch-singer who was known for her soft, smooth voice. She recorded over 30 albums of pop and jazz standards from 1955 to 1969. The track she recorded "Cry Me a River" the song she released on her debut album was included in the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. In addition to the music-related recognition, London was nominated for the Golden Globe Award in 1974 for her performance as nurse Dixie McCall in the television show Emergency!. London was born in Santa Rosa to vaudevillian parents. Her first professional job was as an actress when she was an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles. London's career as an actor lasted 35 years. with film in 1944 and included roles as the female lead in a variety of westerns. She co-starred with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951) along with Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958) along together with Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and alongside Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959). In the mid-1950s, she signed a recording deal with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional career. In 1969 she released her final studio album. But, she continued to be an actor on the Emergency series in the role of Dixie McCall, a female nurse. (1972-1979) She was married to her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband also produced the show.
