After being voted "Most Talented" in her final year, she decided to pursue a career in music. Carter was a candidate for The Garfin Gathering in 1970. She went on tour together with Howard (Speedy), Garfin. Their first performance took place at the Holiday Inn Chinatown in San Francisco in 1970, which was so new , it didn't even have a sidewalk entrance. They performed mostly for hotel staff and guests, who parked their vehicles underground. The Garfin Gathering played shows in many Nevada casino lounges, including those situated between Lake Tahoe, Carson City and Reno. Carter quit the Garfin Gathering for acting, and returned home to Arizona in 1972.
